EXP 3 - INFLUENCES

After reading my 3 articles I was definitely headed in a tree house like design. I had an initial sketch of floating boxes and by incorporating a central walkway, I could make these floating spaces accessible.

MATERIALS

I really like the texture of concrete, and when it is paired with timber and glass.
I found some great images on the internet to use for my concrete textures:

Both grey and white concrete textures. It looked great when I applied it to some surfaces in my SketchUp model

INSPIRATION

When thinking about how I wanted my central walkway to look and feel, I was reminded of one of my articles, as well as The High Line, located in New York City. These spaces definitely inspired how I designed that central space.

After talking to James, and looking at Le Corbusier's work, I wanted to integrate some colour, more interest in these concrete blocks I was creating. So I added in a few block coloured walls and tinted glass to reflect this idea.

The central idea behind my design comes from Peter Zumthor's Therme Vals.
His use of the stone and glass together, and his blockish shapes are what I started with for this scheme and that is evident through my end result.
